I think "all things" is a statement that's a little too broad. I mean, I'm not a vocalist or anything, but I like to think that my voice is pretty flexible. And if that's true, the according to Zadie Smith I must be flexible in all things. This isn't the case, as I can barely touch my toes.
In all seriousness though, I don't find this statement to be true. Ever heard of a "text message break up?" Those usually occur when an individual doesn't feel comfortable doing so in person. They feel flexible enough to send the text, but not flexible enough to face the other party.
